In an appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien last evening, Liev Schreiber, 39, confirmed that he and Naomi are expecting their first child. No word on how far along Naomi is, or what they're having, but Liev did share some funny anecdotes.

The baby will not be named Liev - Liev says that he thinks his name is terrible because it's hard to pronounce.

He refers to Naomi as his girlfriend, but it's believed that she's actually his fiancee - she's been wearing an engagement ring with the stoned turned in as of late.

Liev has tried to be helpful, but he says that whatever he's "done in service of this pregnancy" has been wrong, so he's staying out of the way!

Liev mentions that since Naomi's been pregnant, she wants to go out all the time. Referring to her as a "party girl," he says he made fun of her for being excited to go to the Oscars, but she said it was an honor that "the embryo" would get to attend while still in-utero!

Naomi attended last night the 79th Annual Academy Awards at the Kodak Theatre, where she presented the Visual Effects award along fellow actor Robert Downey Jr. She wore a gorgeus yellow Escada gown and walked the red carpet with Nicole Kidman. I've uploaded 15 pictures of the event. More to come soon! It seems that Naomi's pregnancy is now official. On Sunday night a rep for Escada, which designed Watts’s Oscar gown, sent out a press release reading in part, “The Escada gown set off her most precious new asset – the baby she is expecting with longtime boyfriend Liev Schreiber.”

Naomi will be presenting at tomorrow's 79th Academy Awards, joining Oscar nominees Jack Nicholson, Meryl Streep, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Downey, Jr., Greg Kinnear, Helen Mirren, Clive Owen, Ken Watanabe.

The list of presenters also includes Gael Garcia Bernal, Emily Blunt, Cate Blanchett, Abigail Breslin, George Clooney, Daniel Craig, Tom Cruise, Penélope Cruz, Jodie Foster, Eva Green, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Tom Hanks, Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Diane Keaton, Nicole Kidman, Queen Latifah, Gwyneth Paltrow, John Travolta, Rachel Weisz, Kate Winslet and Reese Witherspoon.

The show will be televised live by the ABC Television Network at 5 p.m. PST (8 p.m. EST), beginning with a half-hour red carpet arrivals segment, "The Road to the Oscars." Stay tuned for this year's Oscar coverage.

Naomi joined yesterday jeweler David Yurman to honor the winner of the 2007 David Yurman National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts Award in Miami Beach, Florida. Director David Cronenberg is presenting a specially made three-minute short for this year's Cannes Film Festival, but ruled out the possibility of a Cannes debut for his new feature film, Eastern Promises, which he just finished shooting in London. But it should be ready in time for either the Toronto or Venice festivals this fall.

Speculation that Naomi Watts is pregnant has been fuelled further with a reported sighting of the usually slender actress and her long-term partner, Liev Schreiber in New York. The couple of nearly two years dined with pals at NYC eatery Pastis on February 18 where “Naomi was visibly pregnant,” an eyewitness says. “Liev was smiling and looking at her stomach. They were cute.”

Watts’ rep said she doesn’t comment on her client's personal life.!

In its ninth week of limited release, The Painted Veil earned $310,967 over the weekend, playing in 200 theaters (-75), grossing a total of $6,869,832.

Best buddies Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman are teaming up for Need, the new film from Nip/Tuck writer, Ryan Murphy, who also directed last year's Running With Scissors, starring Annette Bening . The film is set to be produced by Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal.

According to Variety, the sexy thriller will cast them as archenemies: Watts will play a psychiatrist, Kidman the unstable patient who steals the shrink's husband.

Independent financing is being mobilized for a late fall start.

In its eighth week of limited release, The Painted Veil grossed $530,000 over the weekend, playing in 275 theaters, earning a total of $6,400,000.

Naomi attended last night the Finch and Partners Pre-BAFTA Party at Annabel's Berkeley Square in London, England with a new look, now that principal photography of Eastern Promises has ended. I've added 2 pictures of Naomi arriving at the event.

According to In Touch Weekly Naomi and boyfriend Liev are expecting a baby together:

"This wasn't planned, but Naomi and Liev are thrilled," a friend tells the magazine. "They'll probably be married before the baby is born."

The couple have been dating for almost two years and Watts is said to be just entering her second trimester and is barely showing. However, Naomi is not taking any roles until after the baby is born.

"She'll be such a great mom," the insider says.
